How does AI augment human relationships?
- Client: Hyphen-Labs, for its exhibition at Tate Exchange, Tate Modern
- Delivered at: Comuzi, where I was Managing Director

The client
Hyphen-Labs is an interaction design studio. It commissioned Comuzi to contribute to its exhibition at Tate Exchange, Tate Modern’s space for public participation. The exhibition looked at digital platforms and the power behind technology.
The brief
Contribute a piece of work that explores how artificial intelligence, and machine learning in particular, could change human relationships.
How we did it
We ran a public workshop. Participants first looked back at how digital technology had shaped their relationships over the past ten years, and what role they expected AI to play next.
A group discussion covered working with machines, how technology can help people understand themselves and each other, and why cultural background should shape new technology.
Participants then made “provotypes”, rough provocative models of objects they thought would shape relationships in 2029. The rules were to be funny, have fun and be human.
What we made
- A public workshop on AI and human relationships at Tate Exchange
- Provotypes made by participants, imagining relationships in 2029
- A presentation of the participants’ ideas at the exhibition’s closing talk at Tate Modern, a week after the workshop
- F’xa, our feminist chatbot made with the Feminist Internet, shown as an interactive installation in the same exhibition
My role
I managed the project and helped run the workshop on the day, including presenting participants’ ideas back to the room. I worked with Hyphen-Labs and Tate Exchange on planning and the practical arrangements.
