Financial security for gig workers
The client
Doteveryone was a think tank focused on responsible technology and its effect on society.
The brief
Explore the financial lives of gig-economy workers and consider what greater financial security could look like for people whose income changes from shift to shift.
What we made
- Research into how gig-economy workers earn, plan and deal with unexpected costs
- Low-fidelity prototypes that were tested and narrowed down with participants
- AvocaGo, a fictional on-demand avocado platform used to test ideas in a familiar gig-economy setting
- A pay-transparency feature showing what a driver and the platform each earned from an order, alongside expense tracking
- A crowdfunding feature allowing customers to contribute towards a driver’s training or course
- Findings that informed Doteveryone’s wider work on fairer technology
My role
I managed the project from the initial brief through research, testing and final handover. I coordinated delivery, kept the work moving and made sure the team had what it needed at each stage.
The research and concept testing contributed to Doteveryone’s wider work on fairer technology and the conditions faced by gig-economy workers.
